kid friendly zines
As part of the project we were asked to each create a series of zines that centered on the 5 qualities Tualatin Elementary focuses on; language, history, community, diversity and excellence. Because my zines all had such distinct styles and themes, I decided to unify them by their physical production. They're all a square format with french folded pages, hand bound spines, and printed covers using water based ink and styrofoam scratch plates. The illustrations shown are my own.
planning and creating the zine display
The school needed the display to be portable and easy to store. We decided on an accordian folded cardboard design that is not only incredibly sturdy it has display space on both sides and looks cool too!
activity tables and zine making
For the fair we planned several tables with a range of activites for the kids which all included their own how-to min-zine for them to take home. We also had a table set up for kids to create their own zine and at the end of the evening they could trade theirs for one of several copies our class had created over the course of the term.
